Carol Street

Carol attended Osgoode Hall Law School, and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1982. In 1994 she was called to the Bar of British Columbia.

Carol has practiced law in a variety of capacities: at a large Bay Street firm, as in-house counsel for a corporation, and since 1995 as a partner of Beth Symes.

Carol practices litigation primarily in the area of administrative and public law, both before tribunals and in the form of judicial review and appellate work in the courts. Her practice also includes civil litigation, including employment law, disciplinary proceedings, construction and commercial litigation and arbitration.

Carol has an expertise in matters concerning new home construction in Ontario and in the administration of the Ontario New Home Warranties Plan Act administered by Tarion Warranty Corporation.   She is familiar with the legal rights and responsibilities of both owners and builders, and has dealt with both complex condominium construction claims as well as disputes regarding single family homes.

Carol also advises on and prosecutes regulatory offences and represents clients in appeals to the Ontario Court of Justice and Court of Appeal arising from such offences.

Carol acts as counsel to the Discipline and Complaints Committees of more than one self-regulating profession.  She also represents professionals in proceedings under the Regulated Health Professions Act.

Carol has taught Professional Responsibility and Public Law at the Bar Admission Course. She is an Adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, where she has been an instructor in Trial Practice for many years. She has also participated as an instructor and Team Leader of the annual Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. Carol also participates as a coach in an adjudicator training program run by Osgoode Professional Development and the Society of Ontario Adjudicators and Regulators (SOAR).

Carol worked with Beth Symes and other counsel in representing the Medical Staff Association in the government’s proposal to shut down Women’s College Hospital.

When not practicing law, Carol is primarily occupied with family and friends. She enjoys the outdoors, gardening, yoga, cooking, films, and reading.
